80s Chorus combines a three-voice TRI chorus and a DIM stereo stage. Use either alone or combine them in either order. TRI provides moving ensemble texture; DIM adds its own stereo movement and direct-center component.

Quick start

  1. Start with the default TRI > DIM order, both stages enabled, TRI Mode Manual, DIM Mode 3 and TRI Depth 100%.
  2. Try TRI Rate around its 0.8 Hz default. Lower it for slower movement; adjust TRI Depth for the overall strength of TRI modulation.
  3. Turn each stage off in turn to hear its contribution, then compare the two Order choices with both stages enabled.
  4. To use Mix as a conventional blend of the whole chorus against dry audio, set DIM Full Wet Off on page 2. Its fresh default is On; see below.

Control Range or choices; fresh default What it does
Order TRI > DIM / DIM > TRI; TRI > DIM Selects which stage processes first. Effective when both are enabled.
TRI Rate 0.05–5 Hz; 0.8 Hz Sets the Manual modulation rate. Inactive in Preset mode or with TRI disabled.
TRI Depth 0–200%; 100% Scales the complete TRI modulation. 100% is the nominal depth, 50% halves it, and 200% doubles it.
TRI Mode Preset / Manual / Preset+Manual; Manual Selects fixed preset modulation, adjustable manual modulation, or their combination.
DIM Mode 1 / 2 / 3 / 1+4 / 2+4 / 3+4; 3 Selects one of six DIM voicings. The +4 choices add the fourth mode's contribution.
Mix 0–100%; 50% Blends TRI or the complete chorus, depending on DIM Full Wet.

Control Range or choices; fresh default What it does
TRI Depth L 0–100%; 30% Sets the left TRI voice's Manual depth.
TRI Depth C 0–100%; 30% Sets the center TRI voice's Manual depth.
TRI Depth R 0–100%; 30% Sets the right TRI voice's Manual depth.
TRI Enable Off / On; On Enables the TRI stage.
DIM Enable Off / On; On Enables the DIM stage.
DIM Full Wet Off / On; On Keeps DIM's full voiced output while Mix controls the TRI blend. Off places Mix around the complete chorus.

Choose TRI modulation

Preset uses the fixed compound modulation pattern. TRI Rate and the three individual voice depths are inactive, but the overall TRI Depth still scales the effect.

Manual uses TRI Rate and the individual L/C/R depth settings. Preset+Manual combines both modulation contributions, then applies the overall TRI Depth. Changing TRI Mode does not reset the Rate or depth settings. TRI Depth affects modulation depth, not the output level or DIM's depth.

Understand DIM Full Wet

With DIM Full Wet On, Mix blends the TRI stage while DIM keeps its complete voiced output. With TRI Off and DIM On, Mix is inactive. Turning Mix to zero therefore does not remove DIM from the sound.

With DIM Full Wet Off, Mix blends the final enabled-stage output with the original dry input. This is the useful setting when you want one overall chorus blend. Even at 100%, DIM's own voicing contains a direct-center component; Full Wet does not mean that every internal direct component disappears.

When the block is enabled but both TRI and DIM are Off, it passes unity stereo dry audio at every Mix setting and shows BYPASS. Bypassing the whole block also returns dry audio; its dimmed display shows still images of the enabled TRI/DIM stages, without a BYPASS label. If both stages are Off, that panel is empty.

Inactive controls and the display

Disabling TRI makes TRI Mode, TRI Rate and all TRI depth controls inactive. Disabling DIM makes DIM Mode inactive. Order is inactive unless both stages are enabled. Mix is inactive when both are Off, or when only DIM is enabled with DIM Full Wet On. Values remain stored and editable.

Chain View's cool-colored TRI waves and gold DIM diamonds move right to left to illustrate each stage's rate. Their height is fixed: they do not show depth, the exact sum of all voices, or every detail of Preset+Manual modulation. Disabled stages disappear from the display. Save the Anagram preset to keep your stage choices and settings.
